- Would you like to learn easy, practical and do-able principles to help you live missionally and impact your circle of influence for Jesus? Then this book is a must read! I loved that it was such a small book to read but packed with useful Biblical and practical insights that anybody can effectively implement - especially for those who might feel timid or unsure when it comes to sharing Jesus with non-Christians. But don’t let the size of the book deceive you; It’s very comprehensive and the principles have been proven to be an effective method to introduce others to Jesus. It’s also a great affordable book to give to friends or other church members who would like to learn how to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and share the Good News with others. I highly recommend this book as a must-read for all church members.

- “The message of this book is brilliant. It’s a practical, insightful approach that captures the heart of the gospel. Jesus ate with people, met their needs, and invited them to ‘follow Him’—to receive everlasting life! As disciplemakers, this is our calling.”—Alina and Martin van Rensburg, multiplying young adult missional leaders, Queensland, Australia

- “I love the ‘fourth alternative’ that this book gives for sharing faith. It’s simple, it’s biblical and, because of that, it works. I’ve tried it. If you don’t know what it is, I recommend reading this short book to find out.” —Terry Johnson, President, Greater Sydney Conference

- I read this book in a single sitting—it is compelling, easy to read and understand. It is a necessary reminder that evangelism is accessible to all who would be followers of Christ. Evangelism is the stuff of daily life—eating with others, being open to them, and ready to listen… From my experience, I know this works. - Darren Croft, Pastor-to-pastors, Victoria

- I enjoyed reading this book, but it confronted me. It reminds us of Jesus’ way of growing His kingdom—letting go of control, accepting hospitality, listening and seeing where God is at work, and sharing life’s journey with people. My wife and I have discussed this book—and have started the journey of eating and listening to others. - Steve Goods, Denominational leader, Western Australia

- In a recent interview, Christian cultural commentator Jonathan Merritt suggested that “most people today aren’t anti-Christian, they’re anti-jerk.” Yet too many of the louder Christian voices that many in our communities hear are those that sound jerk-like. In response, many of the rest of us have gone quiet, not wanting to be one more jerk nor to identify with them—at the same time as we feel more than a little guilty about our silence.
If You Can Eat . . . You Can Make Disciples offers a real and refreshing alternative. Dr Peter Roennfeldt’s new little book begins in his own experience of sharing faith with his multicultural and multi-faith neighbours in the western suburbs of Melbourne. But it also firmly directs us back to the method and example of Jesus, and what He taught His disciples in Luke 10:1–24. Jesus urged that there are more people ready to hear about Him—and the healing and hope He brings—than we might assume (see Luke 10:2). And the reality is that many people are curious about Jesus when He is shared by someone they trust or are getting to know.
As well as its strong biblical foundation, If You Can Eat includes real-life stories and examples of what this can look like in a community like yours. The closing chapter suggests ways our churches can adapt to minister to and include our friends who are wanting to follow Jesus and an appendix gives a brief introduction to the other faiths we are likely to encounter in our communities. The short chapters have questions for reflection, which could work well to prompt discussion in a small group or among a group of local church leaders.
If You Can Eat . . . You Can Make Disciples is both challenging and inspiring, biblical and personal, simple and profound. Reminding us of the method and ministry of Jesus, it is an invitation to each of us to continue learning to be disciples together with our multi-faith and no-faith family, friends and colleagues.
