Prayerables

An exciting and practical approach to studying the parables of Christ

by Rudy Hall

In teaching the people of His day in person, and leaving the same teaching with us in the written Word, Christ used amazing stories called parables. These parables, drawn from the day-to-day life experiences of the people in His day, taught spiritual lessons. For example, the parable of the lost sheep shows us how the shepherd left the ninety and nine secure sheep to find a lone, lost sheep. Upon finding his wayward sheep, the shepherd was grateful to return it to the fold. We are the sheep in this parable, and Christ is our good Shepherd. He will go to any length to save us because we are so precious to Him. Much rejoicing occurs in heaven when errant souls repent and return to the safety of the Savior’s protection. We are so important to Him that we are continually reminded of it in His Word.

Communication is key to any ongoing relationship, and prayer is our means of communing with our Lord. Thus, Prayerables pairs the power of prayer with these parabolic lessons. After discussing the background, the message of the parable, and offering a sample prayer, author Rudy Hall then dispenses an assignment directly linked to the lesson at hand. In keeping with the parable of the lost sheep, the “workshop” or assignment is to begin to think differently about people who challenge us on any level: personally, mentally, or spiritually. After all, Christ died for them too. Making a quick phone call or sending a brief email to them would be a start. Let them see through you how God cares for them.

As a result of these activities, this book enriches your insight into the life of Christ and how to take a hold onto the salvation that He offers. Many of Christ’s parables start out by saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like . . .” In other words He said, “Getting into My kingdom will be like this.” He painted these stories in such a way to give us hope and strength to follow His message all the way into His kingdom.
